about me as a scientist

I’m a post doc with the H.E.S.S. group at DESY in Zeuthen, Germany. I spend <50% of my time on H.E.S.S. telescope operations, >50% of my time on gamma-ray burst and gravitational-wave science, and 5% thinking about what my next meal will be. I’m approximately 65% data analyst, 30% observer, and 5% simulator. I’ve switched fields a few times, and the net result is that I have forgotten how to use multiple collaborations’ worth of analysis software.

I am a member of the H.E.S.S. collaboration and an affiliate member of the Fermi-LAT collaboration, and a former member of the LIGO Scientific collaboration. I’m interested in multiwavelength and multimessenger work, especially related to compact objects.

about me as a person

I’m a fan of fantasy novels, tabletop RPGs, and using Zoom filters that turn me into a potato. I enjoy lifting moderately heavy things repeatedly, biking for long stretches while complaining about the wind, and yoga. If I had to choose only one cuisine to eat for the rest of my life, it would be Japanese food. My German is above average when considering the entire population of the world but it really should be a lot better considering how many years I have lived in Germany.

In my spare time I chase around a small baby. I guess he’s not so small anymore.

how to recognize me at conferences

<- This is what I look like at work, and this is what I look like at home ->

If you meet me at a conference I’ll be some superposition of these two.
